An Open Heart

“No power in the sky above or in the earth below–indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”–Romans 8:38-39

Have you ever been through a journey that you never wanted to take?

Recently in my life–over and over again, at different times, with different people–the subject of “unanswered prayers” keeps popping up.  This month marks the one year point of a difficult season that I never asked to go through.  Things I didn’t want to have happen, did happen.  It wasn’t a short, difficult experience.  It was looooong.  It was painful.  It touched my world.  Can you relate?

“God, I didn’t pray for this.”

“God, can you end this?”

“God, please stop the rollercoaster.  I want to get off.”

We all have moments like this.  Today, as I woke up, I had a tiny reminder of God’s plan for our lives when we’re hurting.  This phrase brushed over me, and I thought it was worth sharing:

“An Open Heart”

One thing we *can* do when people let us down, when situations go sideways, when our plans get turned on their head, when our heart wants to shut down and stop believing:  We can open our heart to Jesus.  God’s Word says to guard our hearts and minds.  When our guard is up on the outside, we need to fortify our hearts on the inside.

  • Take time to Breathe today.
  • Read the Bible & write one Scripture you know was meant just for you.
  • Sing a song of praise while you work.
  • Know that you are not alone.  Trust in Him.
  • Spend time thanking God for prayers answered His way.  Be still and know that the answer to your prayer is coming in His way and right on time.

Need a head start?  These have all encouraged me this week:

“The Lord is good.  When trouble comes He is a strong refuge.  And He knows everyone who trusts in Him.”–Nahum 1:7 NLT

“Call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart,”–Jeremiah 29:12-13
