Day Five: Sowing Seeds
A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.”
Anyone who keeps a garden knows that it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a lot of time and effort. There’s planning and preparation that goes along with growing vegetables to eat or flowers to enjoy. One thing that my kids love to do is plant flower seeds. Each one of them has a favorite kind, and they like to see something growing. At first, it might look like nothing is really happening, but after some time they can see a little sprout. It peeks up out of the ground, and they are excited and amazed at this “little miracle” that seemed to occur while they were sleeping. It’s special to them that they followed the instructions, planted, watered, and got to see a living and growing plant. It’s something they participated in, they have ownership in, and it matters to them.
The same can be true of our prayer life. It might seem like nothing is really happening when you get up in the morning to read your Bible and pray. But what about the first time that you started praying for someone…and something happened? Wasn’t that amazing?
Aren’t you so in awe of God and how He answers prayer?
Don’t you feel blessed and humbled that he chooses to use each one of us?
I know I do.
God is able to do awesome things in the Kingdom of God when His people pray.
Let’s partner with Him today, sowing seed into this mission trip. Thank God for the instruction He’s given us in His holy Word. The Bible says that the seed is the Word of God, and we never have to worry because His Word is incorruptible, and it does not return void. As you read the Bible today, find a Scripture that you can pray over your mission team. Here are a few to get you started:
*The Armor of God—Ephesians 6:10-17
*Bearing Good Fruit—Galatians 5:22-23
*Trusting God—Proverbs 3:5-6
*The Love of God—1 Corinthians 13
*The Great Commission—Matthew 28:16-20
Now let’s pray together:
“Dear Lord, I pray that You would prepare my heart to serve. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I delight in Your Word, and Your perfect love casts out fear. Put me in place to be part of Your perfect plan. May I give an offering with the words I speak, the song I sing, the hands to serve, the seed I sow to bring You glory, Lord.”
