Day Thirteen: Hands & Feet
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” –Romans 10:13-15 (NIV, BibleGateway.com)
I love the picture of the church being the hands and feet of Jesus to the world. It’s so beautiful to think that we carry His Name to the nations, and that we can be a part of who He is and what He is doing worldwide. A lot of times, though, we tend to think within the walls of our own building. Don’t we? We think, “I am the hands and feet of Jesus.” Let me challenge that picture today.
There is a church located nearly every five blocks in southern cities like ours. Can you imagine how many churches we have in the southern United States alone? Not to mention the rest of the Western world as a whole. Let’s think of ourselves as a single cell in the body of Christ. We need each other to function as a whole. We need the church worldwide as our brothers and sisters. How beautiful to imagine all the people who serve God coming together to meet needs, to share the Gospel, to be the body of Christ. When we get together as one, it’s hard to tell who came from what church. We all just know that each one of us came from Jesus!
Let’s pray and bless our mission team today:
“God we’re so thankful for who You are and what You are doing this week. Thank you that you provide health and strength for each day. The joy of the Lord is our strength. Thank you for Your wisdom and discernment as we serve the body of Christ this week. We are Your hands and feet, and all we do is give You glory, Lord. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.”
